Abstract
Fruit flies destroy various plants and can cause up to 70% damage on Control method have been applied, especially use of environmental friendly methods e.g. biocontrol method by releasing natural enemies. For satisfying result, knowledge of bioecology and behavior of fruit flies and its parasitoids play important roles. average. This experiment conducted from September 2006 to Januari 2007 was aimed to monitor fruit flies imago population and its damage on chili farm in Middleland Area (ca 600 m above sea level), i.e. Arumantai of Regency Lahat and its parasitoid potency as well. Fruit flies trapped in modified Steiner traps vvere counted once a week. Damaged fruit were kept in laboratory. The severity of damage was determined. Fruit lies identified was Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel). The highest population ofthe fruit flies was found on 16 weeks after planting (wap) red chili, i.e. 48.55 aduIts/trap/200 m2. The severest percentage of damage and apparent parasitism rate were 16.34% and 78.75% that found on 11 and 14 wap red chili, respectively. Some species of parasitoids have been identified. They were Opius sp., Psytallia fijiensis, Psytallia incisi, and Psytallia fletcheri. Apparent parasitism rates of parasitoids were Opius sp. 0.87%, P. fijiensis 4.86%, P.incisi 29.92%, and P. fletcheri 6.14%. From this parasitism rate, it could be concluded that P. incisi was the inost promosing parasitoid to be applied as potential natural enemy to control D. dorsalis.
