Abstract
Rice is main staple food for Indonesian. Unfortunately, pests and desease are found commomly as limiting factors for increasing rice production, i.e Brown Planthopper (Nilavarpata lugens Stal.). Altemative method to control pest and deseases on rice should be necessary developed and applied. Use entomopathogenic fungi {Metarhizium sp.) as one of biological control methods is promising to be considered. Brown Planthopper Nilavarpata lugens (Stal.) was known as vector of on dwarf grass and empty-grain viruses on paddy. Experiment was aimed to determine conidia rearing substrate of Metarhizium sp. active ingredient bioinsecticide formulation, and to evalute bioinsecticide formulations effectivity to control brown planthopper. The research was conducted in Entomological Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University ffom The research was designed by Completely Randomized Design (CRD), four types of substrates used were broken com + sugar 1%, rice + sugar 1%, SDB, and cassava + sugar 1% with concentration 103, 105, 107 of conidia for each substrate. December 2007 to April 2008. IV The infected nymph morfology afiter applied shown decrease in moving and eating. The infected nymph by Metarhizium sp. shown by mummification and surrounding by green miselia. Broken com substrate + sugar 1% was the best medium to rear Metarhizium sp. It showed the highest mortality of N. lugens up to 97,5% and conidia viability up to 55,07%. Metarhizium sp. could not be reared at cassava + sugar 1% substrate. i
