Abstract
Self-medication can affect the fetus and mother and can cause adverse effects on the fetus including malformations/teratogenicity (birth defects), fetal development toxicity, low birth weight, premature birth, respiratory problems, and death. Based on a preliminary survey conducted on 30 samples, 22 samples or around 73% of pregnant women had taken non-prescription drugs during their pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors associated with self-medication practices in pregnant women in the Usila Health Center working area. This study uses quantitative with a cross sectional approach. Sampling using non-probability sampling using purposive sampling technique . Respondents in this study were 52 pregnant women. The results showed that maternal age 17-25 years and maternal education (p-value <0.05) had a relationship with self-medication practices. Meanwhile, maternal employment, economic status, and distance from home to health facilities (p-value >0,05) did not have a relationship with self-medication practices. Maternal age and maternal education have a relationship with self-medication practices. It is hoped that pregnant women will be active in seeking information related to self-medication practices / drugs that should not and may be consumed during pregnancy.
