Abstract

Indonesia is a tropic country that rich with fruits. The climate in Indonesia is suitable to grow many species of fruits plant. One of important problems, the attack of plant by pest. The pest reduce the production of fruit. The purpose of the research was to indentify species of fruit plan and their control. This research was conducted in house yard of people in Palembang City and Banyuasin Regency from September 2009 until March 2010. The Identification of stem borer was done in Laboratory of Entomology, Pest and Disease Departement, Agricultural Faculty of Sriwijaya University. In this research was used purposive sampling methods (observe directly on the plant with the symptom on stem borer that has been choosen). The result of this research showed that on important fruit plant in Palembang City and Banyuasin Regency was attacked by five species stem borers i.e Xytrocera sp., Notonomus sp., Anomala antique Gyll, Leoglymmius sp., Zonitis lutea The way to control it which is done by owner of the plant are first mechanic control the insect pest were 1) mechanical control, pick up the pest and collect it then bum it, the suspected branch is cut and destroyed it, 2) Chemical control, spray the insecticide that contain of active substance such as karbofuron, betasiflutrin, mancozeb, with 2 cc/1 doses. The frequency of insecticide spray was twice or third times a week.
