Abstract

The role of the use of high yielding varieties feel real support increased paddy yields in lowland wetlands but productivity of paddy oflen decrease due sheath blight disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani (Kuhn). The objective of this study was to determined some swampy marsh rice varieties that are resistant to disease sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. Evaluation varieties of paddy response was conducted in the screen house using micro-chamber screening method, with varietiesof paddy as treatment. Each treatment consisted of five varieties of paddy: Inpari 13, Indragiri, Mekongga, Inpara 3 and Ciherang. The result of this research five showed that all of evaluated varieties of paddy were able to be infected by R. solani with the lowest level of severity occurred in Inpara 3 variety with average score 38.88% and the highest severity occurred by Indragiri varietiy with average score 59.34%. Based on the resistant criteria none of the varieties tested showed resistant response. Moderately resistant varieties is only indicated by Inpara 3, Mekongga, Ciherang (disease index 3,5-4,0) somewhat susceptible varieties demonstrated by the variet Inpari 13 and Indragiri (disease index 5,3 - 5,5). The incubation period of the pathogen R. solani on rice variety of paddy Inpari 13, Indragiri and Mekongga average of four days, the varieties ranged Ciherang five days and Inpara 3 varieties by ranged six days. Therefore, the five variety of paddy none of the varieties tested showed resistant to sheath blight disease caused by R. solani.
