Abstract

ABSTRACT Risk Factors Affecting Outcomes of Steroid-Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome Patients Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) has a lower incidence than steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome, but 50% of SRNS patients will progress to terminal renal failure within 1-4 years. This study aims to analyze the risk factors that affect the outcome of SRNS patients. This study was conducted in a retrospective cohort in Pediatric Department of M.Hoesin Hospital in January-August 2024. There were 81 subjects who fulfil the inclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria were children aged 1 month to 18 years who were diagnosed with SRNS in inpatient or outpatient settings. Risk factors assessed included age, gender, renal histopathological, hypertension and hematuria. Outcomes were assessed as response to therapy, progression of renal function, need for hemodialysis and mortality. There was a significant association between hematuria and therapeutic response (RR = 2.474 (95% CI 1.457- 4.190; p < 0.0001) and hypertension with renal function progressivity (p = 0.006) and hypertension with dialysis(p = 0.006). Age, gender and histopathological features had no significant association with patient outcomes.
