Abstract

This study aims to look at "Rational Choices of Farmers in Rice Fields Switching Livelihoods to Palm Oil Farmers in Agung Jaya Village, Lalan District, Musi Banyuasin District". The problems that will be raised by researchers are the Condition of Farming Before and After Switching Livelihoods from Farmers to Rice Fields to Oil Palm Plantation Farmers, and what lies behind the paddy farmers switching their livelihoods. The method used in this study is using qualitative descriptive research methods. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used in this research is James Coleman's theory of Rational Choice Theory, where this theory talks about Actors and Resources. The results of this study found that the farming conditions before and after the farmers switched and the background that caused farmers to switch. From this it makes a difference to farmers when before and after switching, when before switching farmers activities only in the fields and when after switching activities the farmer works as a laborer of PT. for income to experience a difference that was only enough to meet daily needs, now farmers can set aside their money to save.
