Abstract
The research focuses on applying the stratigraphic sequence concept to identify stratigraphic sequence markers, facies, and depositional models in the research area. The stratigraphic sequence is explicitly used to determine facies distribution and interpretation of depositional succession. The research area is in Field "H," which is included in the working area of PT. Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zone 4 Regional 1. Field "H" is included in the South Sumatra Basin, an effective hydrocarbon-producing basin. The Talang Akar Formation is a hydrocarbon-bearing formation in the South Sumatra Basin, and the Transgressive member is the main focus of the research, which aims to determine the basis for assessing hydrocarbon reserves such as local stratigraphic conditions, facies development, system tracts, and depositional models to identify the distribution of deposition. Fourteen research wells and seismic data are used as references for determining stratigraphic conditions, facies development, and making depositional models. Observations were made by interpreting geophysical logs to determine lithology and GR response patterns to identify the electrofacies patterns formed, followed by seismic interpretation as a basis for identifying the developing geological structures. A depositional model was created by drawing horizons on seismic images combined with discrete data determined in the geophysical log. Based on the geophysical log analysis results in the study area, four types of facies were developed: tidal sand bar, tidal mixed flat, tidal sand flat, and tidal mud flat, which facies developed in estuarine environments. The deposition of the stratigraphic sequence in the study area consists of two stratigraphic sequences (sequence 1 and sequence 2), sequence 1 consisting of TST-1 and HST-1, while sequence 2 consists of LST-2 and TST-2. The mfs sequence marker is the boundary between TST and HST, SB is between HST and LST, and TS is between LST and TST. The 3D depositional model shows sediment deposition that moves towards the basin. In the TST-1 layer, dominant deposition moves towards the East-West direction with the accommodation conditions of the basin equal to the sediment supply. The HST-1 layer shows deposition in the East-West direction with the sea level rising slowly, so the accommodation becomes more significant than the sediment forming supplies. The LST-2 layer shows deposition with the condition of the advancing coastline so that the deposition is towards the land at the beginning of the deposition and slowly rises towards the sea as the sea level rises. The TST-2 layer shows a relatively constant thickness of the sequence layer; this indicates the condition of the accommodation space is the same as the sediment supply, and the fining upward pattern shows a gradual increase in sea level at the end of the deposition to the MFS-2 limit.
