Abstract
Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a condition in which blood flow to the heart is suddenly reduced which will cause chest pain (angina). Pain felt by ACS sufferers is often uncontrolled despite pharmacological therapy, so it requires additional therapy or complementary therapy in the form of non-pharmacological therapy that is applied to reduce chest pain, namely by providing heat therapy (thermotherapy). Thermotherapy is the application of heat to the body to reduce symptoms of acute pain and chronic pain including pain in the heart. Methods: The method used was descriptive research with a case study approach to 3 patients with ACS. Results: In the three ACS patients who were given Thermotherapy with a duration of 25-30 minutes, the results of the pain scale experienced an average decrease of 2 numbers from a moderate pain scale to a mild pain scale as measured by the Numeric Rating Scale. Discussion: This therapy is effective for reducing pain, thermotherapy is able to increase and accelerate dilatation of coronary angiogenesis vessels so that oxygenation to the coronary becomes more effective which has a significant effect on reducing chest pain, and has an effect on reducing pain in the heart. Thermotherapy also causes endothelial duplication and increased nitricoxide secretion, thus increasing myocardial perfusion which leads to pain reduction. The application of thermotherapy can significantly reduce the scale of chest pain in ACS patients. This therapy is applied side by side with pharmacological therapy, this therapy is certainly applicable and does not require costs and harmful side effects so that it can be done by patients who experience pain.
