Abstract

The main cause of death in diarrhea sufferers is lack of fluids and electrolytes (dehydration) through soft to liquid feces and if left untreated can cause the body to not function normally. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between maternal characteristics and sanitation facilities with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Tunas Aur Village. The research method is observational quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews using questionnaires and observations using checklists. Data analysis consisted of univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a relationship between education (p = 0.000), behavior (p = 0.001), clean water facilities (p = 0.000), ownership of toilets (p = 0.000), wastewater disposal facilities (p = 0.000), garbage disposal facilities (p = 0.000) with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Tunas Aur Village and there was no relationship between maternal occupation (p = 0.980 ) with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Tunas Aur Village. It can be concluded that sanitation facilities are related to the incidence of diarrhea among toddlers in Tunas Aur Village. It is hoped that related parties will improve health education programs and provide adequate sanitation facilities for mothers with toddlers.
