Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the seventh leading cause of poor health globally, measured by years of life adjusted for Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY). Respiratory disorders are one of the conditions experienced by COPD patients that affect the ability to meet oxygen needs.One of the non-pharmacological therapy that can be implemented to relieve respiratory disorders in pursed lips breathing therapy which can optimize the work of the respiratory muscles. To be able to provide nursing care and implementation of pursed lips breathing therapy on a changes in respiratory rate in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The method used in this scientific work was a case study approach using an analysis of ten journals. Based on the results of the assessment of the three patients who experienced nursing problems with ineffective breathing patterns, intervention and implementation of pursed lips breathing therapy with a duration of 5–10 minutes were given, in the results of change in respiratory rate experienced an average decrease of 2 points, this proves that there was decrease in shortness of breath in patients after being given therapy. Conclusion the application of pursed lips breathing therapy given has an effect on changes in respiratory in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
