Abstract

This study discusses the occurrence of leakage current on silicone rubber insulation material contaminated with calcium sulfate, with conditioning times of 1, 3, and 5 days, as well as an unconditioned sample for comparison. The test samples consist of RTV 497 silicone rubber, molded into a leaf-like shape with dimensions of 50 x 25 x 1 mm, and connected with aluminum tape on both sides with a 5 mm gap. The test samples were treated with calcium sulfate solution contamination in a conditioning chamber. Voltages of 220 V, 500 V, and 1000 V were applied to measure the leakage current passing through the sample surface. The test results showed that the average leakage current values at 220 V for unconditioned, 1-day, 3-day, and 5-day conditioned samples were 0.02474, 0.02738, 0.02870, and 0.02880 mA, respectively. At 500 V, the values were 0.02488, 0.02754, 0.02886, and 0.02901 mA, and at 1000 V, they were 0.02500, 0.02755, 0.02898, and 0.02915 mA, respectively. The results indicate that leakage current values increase with longer calcium sulfate conditioning times and higher applied voltages. The prolonged conditioning of silicone rubber insulation exposed to calcium sulfate results in the accumulation of contaminants on the insulation surface, significantly increasing leakage current values.
