Abstract
Background: Premolar impaction is often found in dental practice, especially in the second premolar of the mandible after the third molar and canine. Premolar teeth in the mandible are reported to have a higher prevalence rate than in the maxilla, which is 24% of all impaction cases. The choice of impaction treatment plan generally depends on the position of the impacted tooth, the developmental stage of the impacted tooth, the distance from the impacted tooth to the occlusal plane, the relationship of the impacted tooth to the adjacent teeth, and the need for orthodontic treatment. Treatment options for premolar impaction include observation and intervention. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the management of premolar tooth impaction in fixed orthodontic treatment. Method: The type of research to be conducted is a qualitative literature review of 22 case report journals. Research results: Research results from 22 journals showed that premolar tooth impaction was most commonly found in female patients aged 10-23 years, on tooth 35 or the second left premolar of the mandible and the impaction angle was vertical. Management of premolar tooth impaction was most commonly performed with a combination of deciduous tooth extraction with orthodontic treatment compared to a combination of surgical exposure or corticotomy with orthodontic treatment, premolar tooth impaction extraction or autotransplantation. Conclusion: Management of premolar tooth impaction was most commonly performed with a combination of deciduous tooth extraction with orthodontic treatment compared to a combination of surgical exposure or corticotomy with orthodontic treatment, premolar tooth impaction extraction or autotransplantation.
