Abstract
A good grounding system is one in which the system has a low soil resistance value. Therefore, the lower the resistance value of a grounding system, the better its quality. This is because electrical fault currents are more easily conducted to the ground through the point with the lowest resistance. This study focuses on the use of zeolite and bentonite additives as materials to reduce soil resistance. The research involves five experiments using rod electrodes with a length of 1 meter and a diameter of 0.012 meters, where each electrode contains 40% soil. The zeolite-to-bentonite ratios for the electrodes are as follows: electrode 1 (100:0), electrode 2 (75:25), electrode 3 (50:50), electrode 4 (25:75), and electrode 5 (0:100). The percentage change in resistance observed in this experiment shows that the greatest reduction occurred in electrode 3, with a decrease of 36.609% in the morning, 35.991% in the afternoon, and 36.786% in the evening. The combination of zeolite and bentonite additives at a 50:50 ratio has proven to be effective in reducing soil resistance due to the complementary properties of both materials, zeolite improves soil structure and loosens it, while bentonite helps to absorb and retain water longer than ordinary soil.
