Abstract
Background: Dental anxiety can provoke avoidance in visiting dentist. One of treatments that capable of elevate dental anxiety is tooth extraction. Purpose: This study aims to determine the prevalence of child’s anxiety prior to dental extraction by age and gender in Rumah Sakit Khusus Gigi dan Mulut Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. This study was anobservational descriptive research with cross sectional design. The population of this study was children who undergone a dental extraction procedure in Rumah Sakit Khusus Gigi dan Mulut Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. The Sample of this study was 60 patients that recruited with total sampling technique. The data were collected by using Raghavendra, Madhuri, and Sujata Pictorial Scale (RMS-PS). Result: Based on gender from 60 patients registered, a low dental anxiety is shown in 9anxious male patients (15%), yet a high dental anxiety is shown in 20 anxious (33,33%) and 1 very anxious female patient (1,67%). Based on age from the sample taken, a high dental anxiety is shown in 20 anxious (33,33%) and 1 very anxious late childhood patient (1,67%). Conclusion: Dental anxiety in this study are found more in female and late childhood patients.
