Abstract
About one-third of all cases of foreign bodies entering the airway and gastrointestinal tract of children get stuck in the airway. Both children and adults can experience foreign bodies. Nasal foreign bodies are foreign bodies found in the nasal cavities. The characteristics of nasal foreign body patients can provide a clear picture of vulnerable age groups, types of foreign bodies that are often encountered, which are important in handling strategies and means of education for the community as a form of prevention. This study aims to determine the incidence and characteristics of nasal foreign body patients visiting the emergency department at Dr. M. Hoesin Hospital. This research method is descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The method used in sampling is total sampling, where the population is equal to the sample size. This study used Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) to process data. The data analysis used was univariate analysis. The incidence of nasal foreign body patients in the study period was 293. The results of this study showed that the most common occurrence of nasal foreign bodies was at the age of >2-3 years (43%), male (54.9%), without symptoms (91.1%), unknown onset (74.7%), beaded foreign body type (25.6%), located in the dextral nasal cavities (65.9%), and without complications (98.6%). The incidence of nasal foreign bodies in the study period was 293, with the most cases at the age of >2-3 years, male, without symptoms, the onset is generally unknown, the most types of foreign bodies are beads, located in the dextral nasal cavities, and most without symptoms.
