Abstract
The objective of this research was to use the waste of palm kernel by means of processing it into on activated carbon. The process was performed by burning the palm kernel by means of double drum carbonization followed by chemically activation process. The chemical used were HCl and KOH with the concentration of 10%, 20% and 30%. The research performed by using Split-Plot Design with activator factor A1 (HCl), A2 (KOH), and concentration factor B1 (10%), B2 (20%), B3 (30%). The parameters measured were moisture content, ash content, and iodine absorption. The result for treatment (A1B1, A1B2, A1B3) and (A2B1, A2B2, A2B3) showed that the lowest moisture content was achived by A1B3 (HCl 30%) with 1,64%, the lowest ash content was achived by A2B1 (KOH 10%) with 6,87%, and the best iodine absorption was achived by A1B3 (HCl 30%) with 912,30 mg/g. Based on the result of the research within different type of activator and concentrations, the parameters measured was found with the rage of SII standard No. 02258-88.
