Abstract
Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a common ear disease with a relatively high prevalence in developing countries. CSOM can lead to hearing loss, which affects the patient's quality of life. This study aims to investigate the relationship between CSOM type and the degree and type of hearing loss at the ENT-HN Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using total sampling from secondary data, specifically medical records of CSOM patients at the Medical Records Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2023, based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study found that most CSOM patients were aged 21-30 years (28.1%) and the majority were male (57.8%). The most common type of CSOM was tubotimpani (67.2%). Most CSOM patients had a history of allergic rhinitis (67.2%). The most common tympanic membrane perforation type was total perforation (34.4%). The most common hearing loss was the conductive type (61.7%) and the majority was severe (31,3%). Chi-square tests showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between CSOM type and hearing loss degree, as well as a significant relationship between CSOM type and allergic rhinitis history. Additionally, a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05) indicated a significant relationship between CSOM type and hearing loss type.
