Abstract

Background. Dengue infection is an acute febrile infection triggered by dengue virus (DENV) infection. There are four serotypes of dengue virus, DENV 1-4. Palembang city, South Sumatra is ranked 5th as the city with the highest mortality rate in early 2024. This study aimed to determine the sociodemographic and clinical profiles of dengue infection patients who were hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period July 2023-June 2024. Methods. This research is an observational descriptive research with cross-sectional study design. The data collection process used secondary data with the total sampling method from the medical record data of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period July 2023-June 2024. Results. There were 94 cases of dengue infection in the period July 2023-June 2024, cases of DHF (81.9%) and DD (18.1%). Most dengue infection patients were aged 26-35 years (39.4%), female gender (51.1%), domiciled in Palembang City (51.1%). The main complaint in all patients was acute fever (100%), followed by petechiae (28.7%), length of hospitalization <7 days (91.5%), comorbidities such as dyspepsia syndrome, anemia, etc (62.8%), hepatitis complications (16%) and blood profile abnormalities namely platelets (median = 78,000/mm3), SGOT (median = 113 U/L) and SGPT (median = 74 U/L). Conclusion. In Palembang City, DHF is the most common manifestation of dengue infection. The majority were found in productive age, relatively no difference between genders and domiciled in Palembang City. Acute fever was found in all patients, followed by petechiae, length of hospitalization <7 days, comorbidities outside the specified variables, hepatitis complications and abnormalities in blood profile namely platelets, SGOT and SGPT.
