Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are injuries or functional impairments that result in abnormalities of the muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, cartilage, and spinal discs, leading to complaints of musculoskeletal pain. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 data shows around 1.71 billion people of all ages experience musculoskeletal pain complaints throughout their lives. Ergonomic factors that cause musculoskeletal disorders include incorrect working posture. Besides work posture, the advancement of time demands workers to interact with electronic devices that can increase individual screen time. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between work posture and screen time with the incidence of musculoskeletal pain among minimarket workers in the city of Palembang. The type of observational analytic research with a cross-sectional study design is used for the analysis of related research data. Primary data were obtained from 50 respondents through the Nordic Body Map (NBM) Questionnaire for musculoskeletal pain, the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) for posture analysis, and the Screen Time Questionnaire (STQ) for screen time data among minimarket workers in Palembang City. The research identified that the majority of minimarket workers are under 35 years old, with a higher proportion of females compared to males. The most commonly complained musculoskeletal area is the back and waist region (40%). The average screen time of minimarket workers falls under heavy users. The Chi-Square analysis found a significant result between work posture and musculoskeletal pain with a p-value of 0.002. There was no significant relationship between screen time and the occurrence of musculoskeletal pain with a p-value of 0.849. The conclusion, there is a relationship between work posture and the occurrence of musculoskeletal pain. There is no significant relationship between screen time and the occurrence of musculoskeletal pain in minimarket workers.
