Abstract

Medical students often face heavy academic burdens, high expectations for achievement, and difficulties in balancing studies with personal life. These conditions make them vulnerable to experiencing emotional mental disorders. However, awareness and intention to seek psychological help remain low. Seeking psychological help is an active effort to obtain support or treatment related to mental health issues, one of which is through counseling with a psychologist or psychiatrist. This study aims to find out the attitudes of medical students towards seeking psychological services. This research uses a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach, involving 294 students from PSPD FK UNSRI through a time-limited total sampling technique. Data were collected via Google Forms, which included the SRQ-20 and ATSPPH-SF questionnaires, as well as additional questions. The data were processed using the SPSS 27 application. The study found that 50% of PSPD FK UNSRI students experienced emotional mental disorders. The majority of these students showed a neutral attitude (69.4%) towards seeking psychological help, followed by a positive attitude (12.9%) and a negative attitude (17.7%). Most respondents were aware of the psychological services available at FK UNSRI, yet a large number chose to seek help outside. Respondents who were younger, female, had a higher allowance, lower parental income, health insurance, and previous experience in seeking help showed a more positive attitude.
