Abstract

According to WHO, stunting is a condition where the TB/U Z-score is less than -2 SD. The problem that arises when children reach the age of 2 years is a critical period for growth disorders, including short stature or dwarfism. Genetic factors become the main foundation in achieving the final result of the child's growth and development process. The study untilized an analytic observational design with case control approach. Data obtained in the form of anthropometric examinations on mothers and their children and filling out questionnaires, the data were then analyzed using the SPSS version 27 for mac. The study findings indicated that most children were between 24–36 months old, the sex of girls, normal birth length > 48 cm, normal birth weight ≥ 2500 gr, mothers aged 20–35 years during pregnancy, mothers with a high school education, mothers did not work, long pregnancy distance, children with a history of exclusive breastfeeding, and mothers from the Palembang Malay tribe. In bivariate analysis, there was a significant relationship between birth weight and the incidence of stunting in children (P = 0.01, P < 0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that the maternal height variable was the only variable that significantly influenced the incidence of stunting (p = 0.04, OR = 3.754 (95% CI 1.064 - 13.246). Maternal height has a significant relationship with the incidence of stunting (P=0.002) with factors that influence the incidence of stunting.
