Abstract

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with an increasing prevalence over the past few decades. Current treatments for SLE focus on controlling and managing disease activity. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), corticosteroids (CS), and immunosuppressants form the cornerstone of long-term SLE therapy. While studies continue to explore the effectiveness of various combinations of these drugs in SLE patients, there is a lack of research examining the effects of these treatments on laboratory values of SLE patients. This study used an observational analytic design with a crosssectional approach. The sample consisted of adult SLE patients receiving combination therapy involving HCQ. The sample was divided into two groups: the HCQ+CS combination group and the HCQ+CS+immunosuppressant combination group. Routine hematology and chemistry laboratory data were collected at baseline (the first time patients receive therapy at RSMH) and three months after therapy. The data were analyzed using paired numerical tests. A total of 110 samples met the inclusion criteria, with the majority having moderate disease activity. Forty one samples received HCQ+CS, and sixty nine samples received HCQ+CS+immunosuppressants. The HCQ+CS therapy show significant effects on hemoglobin, hematocrit, and leukocytes, while the HCQ+CS+immunosuppressant therapy shows significant effects on hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, AST, and ALT. Laboratory values in both groups showed changes before and after therapy. The combination therapy of HCQ+CS+immunosuppressants had a broader impact on five laboratory parameters, while the HCQ+CS combination affected three parameters. There were changes in laboratory values before and after treatment, with most patients showing improvement.
