Abstract

This study investigates the effect of cellulose particles as contaminants in natural ester oil, specifically soybean oil. The testing was conducted by measuring the breakdown voltage of pure soybean oil (control) and soybean oil contaminated with cellulose particles at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 g/L, heated at temperatures of 25°C, 30°C, and 35°C. The tests were carried out using a 500 ml capacity test cell. A ball-ball electrode system with a diameter of 13 mm and a gap of 2.5 mm, in accordance with IEC60156, was used. The breakdown voltage results for soybean oil heated to 25°C and contaminated with cellulose particles at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 g/L were 15.34, 13.77, and 12.57 kV, respectively. At 30°C, the values were 17.81, 15.85, and 13.06 kV, and at 35°C, they were 22.19, 19.56, and 17.55 kV, respectively. The results indicate that the addition of cellulose particle contaminants significantly decreases the breakdown voltage. This is attributed to the increased reactivity of cellulose particles at higher temperatures, which accelerates the degradation of the oil's insulating properties.
