Abstract

Background: There are serious concerns regarding the sexual function of patients undergoing hysterectomy in the postoperative period. 85% of patients who undergo hysterectomy are sexually active, making the effects of hysterectomy on sexual life highly important and not to be overlooked. This study aims to determine the relationship between vaginal length and sexual satisfaction in post-hysterectomy patients at RSMH Palembang. Methods: This observational study with a correlational design involved 134 women aged 20-60 years who underwent total hysterectomy with or without unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang, during the period from March to December 2023. Spearman's Rho’s Test was used to examine the correlation between vaginal length and sexual satisfaction, measured by using Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of various factors such as age, marital status, occupation, and type of hysterectomy on sexual satisfaction. Results: A moderate positive and statistically significant correlation was found between vaginal length and sexual satisfaction (r = 0.558; p = 0.001). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, age and vaginal length were found to be factors associated with sexual satisfaction post-hysterectomy. Women aged ≥40 years had a 1.95 times higher risk of sexual dysfunction (p = 0.037), and every 1 cm increase in vaginal length was associated with a 7.10 times higher risk of sexual dysfunction (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Vaginal length is significantly correlated with sexual satisfaction after hysterectomy. Age also influences the sexual satisfaction.
