Abstract
Indonesia is a world coal producing country, with most of its deposits located in South Sumatra. PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Tanjung Enim Mining Unit (UPTE) is a coal mining company located in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province, which applies the open pit mining method with the Shovel and Truck system. The activity of separating coal from impurities is very important to improve the quality of coal. The coal layer at PT Bukit Asam Tbk is indicated to have impurities in the form of silicified coal, which have a different hardness from coal and can cause damage to mechanical equipment. Silicified coal can be found in almost all coal layers and are the main factor in the difficulty of controlling mining activities. The presence of silicified coal can also damage coal processing equipment and affect the optimization of coal handling and transportation activities. The impact of major losses due to silicified coal needs to be minimized by implementing a risk management system. Risk management is the process of measuring or assessing risk and developing management strategies. The study was conducted at the front pit 2 Banko Barat and 12 sample points were taken to determine the distribution of silicified coal. The study combines quantitative and qualitative research methods. Primary data was obtained through direct observation in the field, such as collecting data on the distribution of silicified coal and interview forms to determine the risks in handling silicified coal. Secondary data was obtained from literature and company reports. The research stages include preparation, literature study, data collection, data processing and analysis and research flowcharts. Data processing and analysis include analysis of silicified coal distribution, analysis of mechanical availability, analysis of probability impact matrix and risk index, risk management control for separating silicified coal from coal. After analyzing the results of identifying the distribution of silicified coal, analyzing the optimal method for handling silicified coal and implementing a risk management system, it is expected to minimize the impact of losses caused by silicified coal on mechanical equipment and other losses in coal mining activities in Pit 2 Banko Barat PT Bukit Asam Tbk. Based on the results of the study, the distribution of silicified coal in pit 2 is in seam A1 which has the highest level of contamination (red zone), seams A2, B2 and C have quite high levels of contamination (yellow zone) and seam B1 is relatively clean (green zone). The average number of obstruction hours due to silicified coal throughout January 2023-November 2024 reached 35 hours in a month, the average frequency of obstruction events due to silicified coal was 31 times in a month with an estimated loss of Rp. 53,655,545,623 can be minimized by mining according to the optimal strategy recommendations will increase the company's profits. The activity of separating silicified coal from coal has a total of 38 potential risks identified, consisting of 8 activities, with the results of the risk assessment from the identification data for separating silicified coal from coal being 10.53% extreme risk level (Extreme risk); 47.37% high risk level (High risk); 31.58% medium risk level (Medium risk); 10.53% low risk level (Low risk); After carrying out control and re-evaluation of potential hazards and risks, the results were 0% extreme risk level (Extreme risk); 0% high risk level (High risk); 47.37% medium risk level (Medium risk); 52.63% low risk level (Low risk)
