Abstract

Background : Blood pressure is an important indicator for diagnosing various diseases, including in children. Aneroid and digital sphygmomanometers are the primary tools for measuring blood pressure, but their results are often debated. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between blood pressure measurements using aneroid and digital sphygmomanometers. Methods : This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design with 89 children aged 3–18 years hospitalized at RS Kemenkes Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, Palembang. The research period is from July 1st to August 31st 2024. Blood pressure was measured using aneroid and digital sphygmomanometers and interpreted according to the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines. Data analysis was conducted using the Cohen-Kappa test. Results : The majority of subjects were 3–12 years old (53.9%), with the majority of male subject (51.7%). The mean systolic blood pressure was 113.37 ± 16.99 mmHg using the aneroid sphygmomanometer and 113.09 ± 17.59 mmHg using the digital device. The mean diastolic blood pressure was 77.19 ± 14.38 mmHg for the aneroid and 79.08 ± 15.24 mmHg for the digital. Cohen-Kappa analysis showed substantial agreement for systolic blood pressure (! = 0.797) and diastolic blood pressure (! = 0.774). Conclusion : There is strong agreement between aneroid and digital sphygmomanometers in measuring blood pressure in children, with no significant differences in mean results. Both devices are reliable for use in accordance with AAP 2017 guidelines.
