Abstract
Scoliosis is a spinal deformity characterized by lateral curvature of at least 10 degrees and rotation of the spine. Most cases of scoliosis occur in adolescents. Early detection can be used to determine the risk of scoliosis. This study aimed to identify the incidence of scoliosis in junior high school students at SMP Negeri 35 Palembang. This study was a descriptive observational study with survey method based on primary data from interviews and physical examination through Adam's forward bending test and scoliometer examination. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis.There were 570 students who met the inclusion criteria as research samples. A total of 202 students (35.4%) at SMP Negeri 35 Palembang were positive for the risk of scoliosis based on Adam's forward bending test. Most of the students who were tested positive through Adam's forward bending test were 13 years old and female. A total of 70 students (12.3%) were at moderate risk and five students (0.9%) were at high risk of scoliosis based on scoliometer examination. There is a difference in the number of students who were tested positive for the risk of scoliosis based on the results of Adam's forward bending test and scoliometer examination. The risk of scoliosis is found more in 13 years and female students.
