Abstract

The problem of antibiotic resistance has become a worldwide concern and a serious problem. Antibiotic resistance is termed as “silent pandemic”. Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one type of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) strain that is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. This bacterium is responsible for as many as 100,000 deaths due to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in 2019. Alternative treatment from natural materials is needed to overcome the problem of antibiotic resistance. The main secondary metabolite compounds in TorBangun leaves such as polyphenols, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils can act as antibacterials. This research is an in-vitro laboratory experimental descriptive research. The extraction method used was maceration using 96% ethanol extract solvent. The TorBangun leaf extract test group consists of concentrations of 2000 µg/ml, 1000 µg/ml, 500 µg/ml, 250 µg/ml, 125 µg/ml and a control group without treatment. The antibacterial activity test of TorBangun leaf extract was carried out by liquid dilution method. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was determined by looking at the smallest concentration that began to clear. The results of the made into a dummy table and described in the results and discussion. The results showed that the MIC value was at a concentration of 1000 µg/ml. TorBangun leaf ethanol extract has bacteriostatic.
