Abstract
Speedboat is water transportation that has the dictintive interest for people, ecpesially for those who will work or commute in any area in South Sumatra. This reseach determining the cause of speedboat accident in Musi River, based on the unsafe acts, unsafe condition, and lack of management. The aim of this research was qualitative with descriptive approach. The informants consisted of four main informants and two ordinary informants. The compiling data method was by intensive interview and observatin page. The result of this research aroused that the cause of the accident, based on the unsafe act experienced by the ship captain, was among others that the ship captain did not obey the regulation firmly, was in the lack of the anticipation when turning over and ran the boat over the suggested speed limit. The unsafe condition includes that the river lane was curve and the wood trunk blocked the speedboat way, as well as the condition of the speedboat that had no complete safety equipment. Besides, based on the management control applied: inspection, training, work time, and safety promotion, they were applied alreay, only there are some improvement needed. The ship captains is to give the priority to safe act while driving the boat, to be more thorough to check the speedboat condition, and to give more care about the passenger safety on the trip. Fot the agency of transportasion, it is to give more supervision not only to the condition the ship captain, the speedboat but also to the river line.
