Abstract

Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by reduced bone mass density and damage to bone microarchitecture that causes bone fragility and an increased risk of fractures. Therapies that can be applied to people with osteoporosis are, pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. The latest pharmacological therapies approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the treatment of osteoporosis include the bisphosphonate class, one of which is zolendronate. Zolendronate may cause post-administration complaints through intravenous preparations for less than 48 hours. This study aims to analyze the relationship of demographic factors to complaints after zolendronate administration in osteoporosis patients at the rheumatology polyclinic of DR. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. This study is an observational analytical research with a cross sectional design. The sample of the study was 62 osteoporosis patients at the rheumatology polyclinic of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang which was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria with consecutive random sampling procedures. Data was collected through interviews using questionnaires and taking data from medical records. The results obtained were then analyzed by the Chi Square test. The majority of osteoporosis patients are in the age group of 60-71 years (46%) and are dominated by women (36%8) and the body mass index is averaged in the normal range (69.4%) and history of fractures (33.9%) and patients with comorbid diseases as many as (58.1%). The most common complaint was fever (58.1%). Bivariate analysis between demographic factors and complaints after zolendronate administration (p=1,000 (p>0.05)). The results of the study on demographic factors on complaints after giving zolendronate to osteoporosis patients at the rheumatology polyclinic of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang were that there was no relationship between age, sex, BMI, history of fractures and comorbid diseases to complaints after administration of zolendronate in osteoporosis patients at the rheumatology polyclinic of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang.
