Abstract

Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous that commonly in adolescents. This condition can be influenced by various intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between gender, family history, stress level, sleep quality, and body mass index (BMI) with AV. Cross-sectional study at Senior High School 3 in Palembang. A total of 188 subjects were recruited using total sampling. Dependent variable in this study was AV, and the independents were gender, family history, stress level, sleep quality, and BMI. Bivariate analysis using chi-square and binary logistic regression, and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression. Total case of AV was 151 and the prevalence was 80,3%, the majority AV were in female, had family history of AV, experienced moderate stress, had poor sleep quality, and had normal BMI. Bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between family history with the incidence of AV (p=0,014), however there were no significant relationship between gender, stress level, sleep quality, and BMI with the incidence of AV. Multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between family history (p=0,001) and the incidence of AV. Family history was the most significant factor for AV in this study and the result was consistent with previous studies. Gender, stress level, sleep quality, and BMI were not significantly related with AV, and these results were inconsistent with previous studies.
