Abstract

Hydatidiform mole is a disease that originates from the placenta where the proliferation of villi trophoblasts occurred. In Indonesia, the incident number of hydatidiform mole is 1 per 40 pregnancies, so it is considered as an important disease with a high incident rate. Considering this incidence rate, periodic studies are needed to determine the development trend and clinical characteristics of hydatidiform mole. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the incidence and characteristics of hydatidiform mole in RS Kemenkes Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This research is descriptive observational with a cross sectional study design. This research aims to determine the incidence and clinicopathological features of hydatidiform mole in Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of RS Kemenkes Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January 2020–December 2023. Data was processed using SPSS version 27 with descriptive statistics method and presented in the form of tables and corresponding narratives. Fourty nine patients met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The clinical characteristics of the patients found were: 61,2% were 20–35 years old, 98,0% had no history of hydatidiform mole, 77,6% had no history of abortion, and 46,9% were multiparous. All histopathological types found were complete hydatiform moles. The incidence of hydatidiform mole from 2020–2023 were 4,11%. The clinical characteristics most often encountered were: 20–35 years old, no history of hydatiform mole, no history of abortion, and multiparous. The histopathological type most often encountered were complete hydatidiform mole.
