Abstract

Introduction: The diagnosis of male fertility depends on the results of sperm analysis. Out of the several parameters studied, sperm morphology and motility are parameters that have an important role in the assessment of male fertility. This study aims to determine the relationship of spermatozoa morphology with its motility on the results of patient’s sperm analysis at Intan Clinical Laboratory Palembang. Methods: This research is an analytic observational cross sectional study with total sampling. The population in this research is medical record data of patients who performed examination of sperm analysis at Intan Clinical Laboratory Palembang from May 23rd, 2015 until July 24th, 2017. The data were analyzed by using linear regression test. Results: Out of the 141 samples, the majority of patients are between 20-30 years old (51.1%), have abnormal morphology (89.4%), and have normal motility (68.8%). Bivariate analysis showed that normal morphology has significant relationship with grade A motility, grade B motility, and grade A+B motility (p= 0,000) and has a positive influence on sperm motility. In addition, there is also a significant relationship between abnormal morphology with grade A motility, grade B motility, and grade A+B motility, but has a negative influence on sperm motility. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sperm morphology and its motility on the results of patient’s sperm analysis at Intan Clinical Laboratory Palembang.
