Abstract

Background. Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) recorded that in 2020-2022, 8.35% of women of reproductive age in Indonesia used IUD Cu T-380A as their contraception choice, making it the fourth most commonly used contraceptive method in Indonesia. Acceptors of IUD T-380A experiencing increased risk of vaginal ecosystem imbalance, or known as bacterial vaginosis. This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of IUD Cu T-380A and the occurrence of bacterial vaginosis at the Alang-Alang Lebar Health Center Palembang. Metode. This research used observational analytic study method with cross-sectional design. The samples were taken with consecutive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out by taking vaginal secretions and administering questionaires on acceptors and non acceptors of IUD Cu T-380A who underwent early examination for cervical cancer at Alang-Alang Lebar Health Center Palembang. Results. Based on research from 42 samples, the result of bivariate analysis using chi-square test showed that there is significant relation between IUD Cu T-390A usage with bacterial vaginosis incident (p-value=0.013). Meanwhile sosiodemographic characteristics, frequency of changing underwear per day, vaginal douching habits, and condom use during coitus did not have significant relation with bacterial vaginosis incident (p-value>0,05). Conclusion. There is significant relation between IUD Cu T-380A usage with bacterial vaginosis incident at Alang-Alang Lebar Health Center Palembang.
