Abstract
Background. In infants, the first 1000 days of life is a golden period for cognitive and physical development. Any disruption during this period requires early intervention and stimulation before further deviations occur. The age of 0-6 months in infants is a crucial time, as growth is very rapid compared to later periods, and the infant’s nutritional status must be monitored. Nutritional status is the result of the balance between the intake and utilization of nutrients received by the child and serves as an indicator for evaluating the child’s growth. This study aims to determine whether birth weight, immunization, and a history of hospitalization affect the nutritional status of infants aged 1-6 months in Palembang City. Methods. This study is an analytical observational research with a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study was taken using a random sampling method. The total sample size was 200 infants. Data was collected through brief interviews with the caregivers and anthropometric measurements of the infants. The data was analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis (with the chi-square and fischer exact method). Results. The results of this study show that, of the 200 infants aged 1-6 months in Palembang City, the distribution of nutritional status was as follows: 66% had good nutritional status, 4% has risk of overweight, 13.5% had poor nutritional status, 4.5% had very poor nutritional status, and 12% had excess nutritional status (8.5% overweight, 3.5% Obese). There was a significant relationship between birth weight and the nutritional status of infants aged 1-6 months in Palembang City (p-value 0.001). There was a significant relationship between immunization and the nutritional status of infants aged 1-6 months in Palembang City (p-value 0.001). There was also a significant relationship between a history of hospital care and the nutritional status of infants aged 1-6 months in Palembang City (p-value 0.001). conclusion. In this study, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the nutritional status of infants and birth weight, immunization, and a history of hospital care.
