Abstract

Modernization of agricultural practices in Indonesia, particularly in soil cultivation for wetland areas, through developing an android-controlled hand tractor, is crucial in addressing the challenges of decreasing labour availability and decreasing agricultural land. This study evaluates the technical and financial feasibility of implementing an android-controlled hand tractor via Wi-Fi compared to manual operation. The research methodology includes testing technical capacity, cost efficiency and economic assessment. The android-based hand tractor control via Wi-Fi was found to be 100 % accurate; however, the response delay increased with the smartphone’s distance from the microcontroller, up to a maximum of 100 meters. Straight-line testing indicated that android-controlled hand tractor operation tended to deviate more frequently with varied directional shifts compared to manual operation. Field efficiency for ploughing and harrowing with android control was lower than with manual processes. A five-year investment simulation financial analysis demonstrated a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp 19.918.961,- and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 28,03 %, a payback period (PBP) resulting in 1,78 years faster than manual control and a Return of Investment (ROI) of 60,15 %, tough it is 10,4 % lower than conventional methods. Adoption of a remote control android-based hand tractor system is financially more advantageous than conventional systems, although improvements in the technical operational aspects of the system are necessary to support its implementation.
