Abstract

The widespread existence of formula milk is one of the factors that causes low exclusive breastfeeding. Providing formula milk to infants aged 0-6 months can have a negative impact on infants and mothers. The risks of providing formula milk to infants aged 0-6 months are, causing the risk of diarrhea, ARI, pneumonia, obesity, and allergies. While the risks of providing formula milk to mothers are, the risks of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Factors that influence mothers to provide formula milk to infants are, age, education, occupation, knowledge, promotion of formula milk, the role of health workers, and family support. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the provision of formula milk to infants aged 0-6 months. This study was a descriptive analysis using a cross-sectional method. This study used a purposive sampling technique, and the sample consisted of 81 people. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis of this study were univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi square test. The results showed that education (p value = 0,005), knowledge (p value = 0,000), promotion of formula milk (p value = 0,000), the role of health workers (p value = 0,000), and family support (p value = 0,000) were variables that were significantly related. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the relevant parties such as health workers will strive to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding coverage by optimizing the knowledge of mothers and families through education or counseling.
