Abstract

This research aims to find out how WFP's role in reducing hunger in Somalia in 2020-2023. The hunger crisis in Somalia was caused by drought, poverty, and conflict, which led to crop failure and skyrocketing food prices, leaving people in a state of hunger and unable to fulfill their needs. WFP as an intergovernmental organization is tasked with addressing the famine crisis faced by Somalia. The methodology used in this research is to use a descriptive qualitative approach with secondary data sources obtained through various supporting documents, articles, journals, and reports. This research uses Clive Archer's IGO Role Theory and Food Security to see the real role of WFP in reducing hunger in Somalia. First, Instrument through monitoring program by WFP, humanitarian food aid program, WFP nutrition support, flood anticipation action, and School Feeding Programmme. Second, Arena by strengthening the country's capacity at the national and sub-national levels and integrated capacity building across all activities. Third, Actor through The Baxnaano Program, WFP's collaboration with UNICEF in improving health in Somalia, providing financial assistance to Somalia, and the Mother and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) program. The result of this research is that WFP is present and committed in its efforts to overcome hunger in Somalia. The Somali government feels helped by WFP's program to alleviate the suffering of the people due to the famine crisis in Somalia.
