Abstract

Laboratories play an essential role as facilities for research, learning, and data collection. The Production Laboratory at Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department, Sriwijaya University, serves as a place equipped with facilities for practical work, research, and data collection activities. However, the process of maintaining and managing laboratory equipment has not been carried out optimally. This is due to a lack of documentation and a regular maintenance schedule, resulting in equipment often being unready when needed. This research aims to develop a web-based management application for the maintenance and care of laboratory equipment. The application is designed using PHP programming language and MySQL database. One of main features offered by this application is ability to identify laboratory tools or machines using a scanner and QR Code. This feature is designed to facilitate technicians in performing scheduled maintenance, documenting maintenance activities, and monitoring equipment conditions more efficiently. The research methodology used is waterfall development model, which includes literature study, preparation of tools and software, interface and database design, application development, and testing and refinement. A case study was conducted at the Production Laboratory of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Sriwijaya University. The expected outcome of this research is the development of a management system that can enhance the efficiency of maintenance and care, support the documentation of technicians' activities, and simplify equipment condition monitoring by laboratory head. With this system, laboratory operations are expected to run more optimally, thereby supporting the sustainability of research, learning, and data collection activities in the laboratory.
