Abstract

Nutritional problems are still a major concern in Indonesia. Adolescents are a group at risk of nutritional problems, such as malnutrition, obesity, and anemia which can affect their growth and development. In general, nutritional problems are caused by limited knowledge about nutrition. Nutritional problems in adolescents can be prevented by providing Health Education about balanced nutrition to increase knowledge and awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health education using the isi piringku flashcard on adolescents' balanced nutrition knowledge at SMA N 04 Lahat. This study was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental one group pretest-post test design. The number of respondents in this study were 64 students at SMA N 04 Lahat who were selected using the probability sampling method with stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaires of balanced nutrition knowledge. Statistical analysis in this study used the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results of study showed that the median value of adolescents’ knowledge during the pretest were 14 and the posttest were 22 with a p value of 0.000 <0.05. So it can be concluded that there was a significant effect between the isi piringku flashcard on knowledge of balanced nutrition for adolescents. The use of isi piringku flashcard media can be one of the strategies used by teachers and health workers to do health education about balanced nutrition that can increase knowledge for adolescents and reduce the risk of nutritional problems.
