Abstract

Swamp water has a low pH value ranging from 3-4, this causes swamp water not yet be used optimally for fish culture. The optimum pH value for culture media of pangasius catfish (Pangasius sp.) is 6.5-8.5. One effort that can be done to increase the pH of swamp water by liming. This study aimed to determine the best dosage of cockle shell lime to increase water pH, growth and survival of pangasius catfish. This research was carried out at the Aquaculture and Experimental Ponds Laboratory Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from July to August 2024. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications, namely 0 mg L-1 (P0), 10 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P1), 20 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P2), 30 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P3), and 40 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P4). Pangasius catfish with initial size of 5±0.5 cm and a stocking density of 100 fish m-3 was cultured for 30 days. The results showed that the application of cockle shell lime at a dose of 30 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P3) was the best dose that was able to optimize the pH of swamp water with initial pH of 4.90 to 7.40 at day 30 of culture, fish survival of 98.00%, absolute length growth of 5.74 cm, absolute weight growth of 8.91 g and feed efficiency of 92.05%.
