Abstract
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Game Based Learning (GBL) and Student Generated Questions (SGQ) in enhancing high school students' Computational Thinking (CT) skills compared to traditional methods. Data collection was conducted through pretests and posttests with 20 questions, analyzed using validity, reliability, and N-Gain effectiveness. The results showed that the experimental group achieved an average N-Gain of 0.83 (effective category), higher than the control group’s 0.72 (less effective). In the experimental class, all students scored above the M+ line in the posttest, whereas the control class still had students below the line. The average posttest score of the experimental group (83.14) was also higher than that of the control group (69.42). The research instruments demonstrated high reliability (0.89) and included in-depth analyses encompassing CT concept exploration, problem-based games, discussions, and reflections. The GBL+SGQ intervention proved more effective than traditional teaching methods in improving students’ CT skills, providing positive impacts on energy literacy learning at the high school level. These findings highlight the potential of GBL+SGQ as an innovative approach to support learning based on critical and computational thinking skills. Keywords: Game Based Learning (GBL), Student Generated Questions (SGQ), Computational Thinking (CT), learning effectiveness, N-Gain, energy literacy.
