Abstract
Floating pakcoy cultivation is one way to utilize swamp land during the flood season. The floating cultivation method uses rafts with irrigation of the wick system hydroponic cultivation approach. The system utilizes water capillaries that are influenced by the composition of the media and the number of wick used. This study aims to observe the growth and yield of pakcoy grown using different substrate composition and number of wicks. This research was conducted in the embung field laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University with a randomized group factorial design (RAKF). Substrate composition as the first factor includes topsoil (M1), composition soil: Cow manure: Sand (4:2:1) (M2), Composition Soil: Cow manure: burnt husk (4:2:1) (M3). The number of wicks as the second factor includes two wicks (S2), three wicks (S3) and four wicks (S4). The results showed that the composition of the substrate and the number of wicks used affected the level of water mobilization that could be absorbed by the substrate as indicated by the level of soil moisture, which in turn affected the growth and yield of pakcoy plants. The use of substrates with the addition of manure and sand (M2) or manure and burnt husks (M3) gave better growth and yield than using only topsoil (M1). The use of four axes (S4) gave the highest growth and yield, although it was not significantly different from the pot with three wicks (S3). Thus, the use of the substrate composition of manure and burnt husk with the use of three wicks provides the best results to be applied further.
