Abstract

Chaya plant (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) Var. Picuda is native to Mexico's Yucatan peninsula and is widely cultivated in Mexico and Central America. In general, chaya plant propagation is done vegetatively by taking stem cuttings. The stem cuttings used can be from the top, middle or bottom of the stem. Carrying out stem cuttings has a big influence on plant growth so it is necessary to add vitamins to the plant cutting material by providing growth regulators to the cuttings. Growth regulators can be obtained naturally, namely by using shallots or using coconut water. This research aims to determine the effect of giving natural growth regulators to various sources of cutting material on the growth of chaya plants. The study was conducted using a factorial randomized block design (FRBD)) which consisted of two factors, natural growth regulators: M0 = Control (without ZPT), M1 = Red onion extract with a concentration of 100%, M2 = Coconut water with a concentration of 100% and factors origin of cuttings material : S1 = Origin of upper cuttings material, S2 = Origin of middle cuttings material, S3 = Origin of lower cuttings material. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the use of cutting material and natural growth regulators does not have a significant effect on the growth results of chaya plants up to 10 weeks after planting (10 WAP). However, the use of bottom cuttings produces the best percentage of live cuttings and the best percentage of shoot growth, while the best percentage of root growth is found in the use of middle cuttings. The provision of a natural growth regulator with coconut water produced the best percentage of live cuttings, while the percentage of shoot growth produced the best results with the use of a natural growth regulator, shallot extract.
