Abstract
Tectonically, the research area is located in the South Sumatra Basin. The South Sumatra Basin is known as a complex geological area. In general, the research area is located in the Early Postrift (Early Miocene-Middle Miocene). In the Talang Baru area, research on the diagenesis of the Gumai Formation calcareous sandstone has not been carried out comprehensively, so this study aims to determine the stages of diagenesis that occur at the research location. This research was conducted using methods such as petrographic analysis, studio analysis and porosity analysis. Laboratory analysis in the form of petrographic analysis of twelve calcareous sandstone samples to obtain the type of calcareous sandstone based on the content of lime, silica and clay. Studio analysis includes diagenesis analysis to determine the phase and process of diagenesis that occurs in the Gumai Formation calcareous sandstone, making a map model to represent data that has been obtained in the field in the form of geological maps, track maps, and montage maps, and calcareous sandstone porosity analysis to determine the percentage and quality of calcareous sandstone porosity of the Gumai Formation. The results of diagenesis analysis show that the calcareous sandstone of the Gumai Formation experienced a strong compaction phase, dissolution, cementation by silica minerals and carbonate minerals; and an authigenesis phase in feldspar, quartz, and clay minerals. The temperature level and depth of the diagenesis process of the calcareous sandstone of the Gumai Formation are divided into three groups, namely semi-mature, mature 'A' and mature 'B' with a temperature of 65°C to 120°C and a depth ranging from 2-4 km. Porosity analysis of calcareous sandstone in thin sections of rocks obtained the results that the calcareous sandstone of the Gumai Formation has a poor-good classification with a percentage of between 8.7% -17.77%. The porosity results are caused by diagenesis factors that contain a dissolution phase, increasing primary porosity with the type of intergranular porosity. In addition, this is because most of the rock composition is in the form of fossils that have been filled with calcite minerals, which are minerals that are easily dissolved so that in the process of rock formation, calcite dissolves and forms secondary porosity. The results of this study are expected to be information that diagenesis and porosity analysis in the calcareous sandstone of the Gumai Formation affect the quality of the reservoir in the Talang Baru area and its surroundings.
