Abstract

Snoring is considered an independent predictor of hypertension. The significant relationship between snoring and hypertension shows the importance of innovation that can reduce the intensity of snoring in hypertensive patients. This study aims to develop a prototype cervical pillow for hypertensive patients in preventing snoring that can adjust the patient's sleeping position and ensure the neck remains in an extension position. This study uses the Research and Development (RnD) development model with the 4D model, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The subjects of this study were 20 hypertensive patients in the inpatient room of Siti Fatimah Hospital. The results of three practitioner validators showed very feasible criteria with an average value of 95.8%. Likewise, the results of three material validators showed very feasible criteria with an average value of 95.83%. Limited trial showed that on six main scales, namely attractiveness (2.65), clarity (2.68), efficiency (2.64), accuracy (2.29), stimulation (2.45), and novelty (1.95), the cervical pillow prototype obtained excellent criteria results. These results indicate that the developed cervical pillow prototype is very feasible to be used to maintain the cervical position in preventing snoring in hypertensive patients. This study succeeded in achieving its main objective in developing an ergonomic cervical pillow prototype to prevent snoring. The development of an ergonomic cervical pillow prototype specifically designed for hypertensive patients has great potential in preventing snoring.
