Abstract

Jengkol leaves (Archidendron jiringa Benth) contain active compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, steroids and tannins. the use of herbal medicines during pregnancy must be considered carefully, because drugs can cross the placenta and so can cause teratogenic effects on the fetus. Teratogenic toxicity research of ethanol extract of jengkol leaves (Archidendron jiringa Benth) has been conducted to see its safety when given to mice. The study was conducted with 4 groups: control (Na CMC), P1 (100 mg/kgBB), P2 (200 mg/kgBB), and P3 (400 mg/kgBB). The preparation of ethanol extract of jengkol leaves was given to pregnant mice during the period of organogenesis (day 9 to 17). Based on the statistical results of ANOVA and DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test), the administration of ethanol extract only has a significant effect (pvalue <0.05) on the delay in bone ossification of the sacrocaudal vertebral body. The administration of ethanol extract dose P1 (100 mg/kgBB) has given a teratogenic effect so it can be concluded that ethanol extract of jengkol leaves has a teratogenic effect on the fetus of mice (Mus musculus).
