Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of mattering in fear of negative evaluation among mothers of children with special needs. The hypothesis of this research is that mattering plays a role in fear of negative evaluation among mothers of children with special needs. The population in this study consists of mothers of children with special needs, with a research sample of 138 mothers and an additional 30 mothers for try out. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The research measuring tools uses a fear of negative evaluation scale, modified by the researcher from the standardized scale by Watson and Friend (1969), and a mattering scale based on the aspects of mattering proposed by Elliot, Kao, and Grant (2004). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression techniques. The results of the simple linear regression analysis between mattering and fear of negative evaluation showed an R-squared value of 0.833, an F-value of 679.20, and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that mattering has a significant role in fear of negative evaluation. Therefore, the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted.
