Abstract
This research aims to determine the influence of implementing spontaneous group discussions on students' critical thinking abilities in learning Pancasila Education at SMP Negeri 9 Palembang. This research uses a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design method. The population in this study was 395 students. The non-probability sampling technique is a purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 73 students. In this research, data was collected using documentation, tests and observations. The research results showed that the hypothesis test carried out using the independent sample t-test using SPSS version 26 obtained a significance value of 0.000 in the experimental class and 0.000 in the control class with a significance level of (a) 0.05. This shows that the results obtained are sig <u (0.000 < 0.05) and (0.000 < 0.05), so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Furthermore, through observations during learning, the experimental class showed good criteria for critical thinking while the control class showed sufficient criteria. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an influence of implementing spontaneous group discussions on students' critical thinking abilities in learning Pancasila Education at SMP Negeri 9 Palembang.
